How to Make Paper Gift Tags Step-by-Step
Paper Cut Tutorial 2: Moonlit Woods Gift Tags
Ah…it’s that time of year again! The cold crisp air moves in and we get ready for the snow to fall. Wherever you may be, I hope you’re staying nice and warm!
And while you’re nestled at home (maybe listening to a crackling fire or sipping on some hot cocoa), this may be the perfect opportunity to create your own paper cut art!
This paper cut tutorial is all about using paper to spice up your gift wrapping this holiday season! Handmade gift tags are a wonderful way to add some charm and whimsy to your wrapped gifts. These steps are easy to follow and fun! Before you know it, you’ll have handmade Christmas tags ready to go for your family and friends.
Let’s get started and create!
Prep: First, we need the following materials and tools for our paper cutting art project:
♥ Paper Cutting Art Template (save the template to your desktop and print at 100%. Everything is colored in, so you will only need 1 sheet of white paper per 2 gift tags–preferably heavy stock paper. If you don’t have a colored printer, no worries! Use the pictures below as your guide and trace each step using the referenced color from the template—or use any colors you have around the house!)
Creative Space: Once you have those 4 materials on hand, you’ve got everything you need. Make a mug of hot cocoa, put on some of your favorite holiday tunes, and bring these materials to your favorite cozy spot…Are you ready? Great! Now, to the paper cutting!
Step 1: Cut out the shapes from your printed template and lay them all on your desk. And don’t forget to save your left over paper for future paper projects!
Step 2: Next, let’s create the base for our gift tag. Glue one side of the blue circle and paste on top of the black background. Once that is glued down, it’s time for some trees! Before gluing the trees, we can give them texture by making tiny cuts along the edges (like below):
Step 3: You’re almost done! Not bad, right? 😉 To bring depth to our wintry scene, we can add those two white birch trees to the foreground. Once cut, you can add little notches with your scissors (like below) and glue down the bases of each tree. If you leave the outer limbs unglued, you can fold them outwards and create a nice 3D effect.
Step 4: Time for a big yellow moon and mini heart! You can glue down the yellow moon at the top left and add a heart in the tree background. Then, we are good to go!
Step 5: You can tape your handmade gift tag to your wrapped present and sign! Or, even write a little note!
I hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think or if there’s anything else you’d like to see in the next paper cutting tutorial. 🙂 Also, if you have any fun plans for the holidays, please share below as well! I’d love to hear about them!
Thank you so much for following along! Wishing you a joyous holiday season!
Until next time,
